21Race:
Human: CaucasianStarsign:
Libra - October 15th
Appearance:
Despite her profession, Vyvian is a willowy creature with little visible evidence of her years at sea, aside from a light tan from the sun. But then, any evidence that –may- be seen is generally covered, due to her liking of covering clothing. Standing at 5’7, Vyvian has wavy, brown hair that, when out, sits just below her shoulder-blades, though usually it’s tied back in a ponytail of some description. Though she is by no means blind, Vyvian’s eyes are a rather pale shade of grey, perched above a slim nose and smallish mouth.Pictures: [x][x][x]
Clothing wise, saying Vyvian is conservative would only be partially correct. While she’s not one to show any skin, at all, this all-covering trend does not stop her garb from reflecting her pirate nature…if only a little. She wears a long-sleeved, flowing white shirt with ties at the collar-bones, covered by a black bodice decorated with a multitude of small, embroidered patterns. This monochrome is set off by a blue-green, ankle-length skirt, the corner of which is usually hiked up and tucked into her belt – a black, unadorned affair with a large, gold buckle – for easier movement. And to show off her stockings, which are white with grey pinstripes. To finish off her outfit, Vyvian wears rather solid looking, black boots, which come up to about mid-calf and have laces down the front.
Jewellery wise, she doesn’t tend to over do it; Her only decoration aside from her sabre are a pair of gold, hoop earrings. She does, however, have two runes; tattoo-like in appearance, and one on each hand. The one on her right hand is plain black, a small circle appearing to have been split into an X with two jagged lines. The one on her left hand, far more impressive, is a shimmering gold to the eye, and is a number of interlocking swirls vaguely in the shape of a figure 8.
Oh yes…sometimes she wears a captain’s hat with a feather in it. Just for fun.
Personality:
Vyvian is likely the cleanest, calmest and possibly one of the nicest pirates you will ever come across. She avoids killing unless she has to, even when raiding an enemy ship, and always gives a surrendering party full rights, and at least half their food and water for the journey home. Behaviour like this, despite authorities trying to keep it quiet, easily gets around and although Captain Lee is somewhat feared on the seas, she's certainly not hated.
Alongside her slightly obsessive-compulsive nature when it comes to cleaning (one reason why no man on her deck has died of disease due to rats, scurvy, or even a bad cold), Vyvian loves reading. It's her favourite hobby, actually, and if working wasn't essential she'd likely have curled up in a library years ago and read for the rest of her life. She's a relatively quiet girl when not shouting orders on deck and, though rather a prude in some regards, is genuinely concerned about her ship, it's crew, and anyone she takes a liking to.
How very un-piratical of her.
History:
Vyvian spent the youngest years of her life as a servant in the home of a middle-noble, along with her mother and father. They were actually very lucky; their family had served the noble for generations and, because of this, were treated as members of the family. Vyvian herself grew up alongside the noble's daughter, Patrice, and the pair were inseparable to the point where Patrice simple refused to go to her lessons unless Vyvian went with her. This lucky break meant Vyvian received a noble-born's education, as well as the basics in playing the violin. At least, she did until the age of eight.
Unfortunately for all involved, the noble had been dealing with smugglers for a number of years and the Senate of Argonia decided that they'd had enough. The noble's household was sacked, and the entire family massacred, aside from Patrice. Patrice, luckily, had been with Vyvian at the time, and the two had managed to escape through the servant's quarters...but only after Patrice completely lost the use of her legs because of a heavy, wooden bookshelf falling on her during the attack.
Despite being out of the job, Vyvian's family took Patrice in. Looking after two little girls, one of which was incapable of work and heavily grieving, proved to be near impossible so, seeing her family's desperation, Vyvian tracked down one of her ex-master's smuggler friends who was in town, and asked for a job.
Surprisingly, she got one. Since she was only small though, her new Captain put her to work cleaning out his very messy and disorganised cabin, a task which Vyvian actually enjoyed. The only hard part of the job was dealing with the Captain himself, who enjoyed using her as a sewing dummy.
She put up with this, and the rest of his antics, until she hit thirteen. Sick of being poked by needles, and having hit a mildly rebellious stage of puberty (I say mildly, because rebel and Vyvian are difficult to put in the same sentence), she jumped ship one night while they were moored, after ‘borrowing’ a book or two from the Captain’s library, which she knew as well as him. Her absence the next morning was decreed a ‘Girl overboard’ as the Captain, in his sporadic nature, neither noticed the missing books or lifeboat.
Luck was definitely with Vyvian in the early years of her life, as finding a new ship was actually rather easy. Her second Captain, Captain Isandro, quiet taken with the fact that Vyvian was decently literate, quickly accepted her on board and seemed to take a liking to her, taking the time to teach her the art of fencing and navigation as, as he would put it, he “Needed someone with half a brain to talk to.”. Things went as peacefully as piracy goes for around six years until the Captain Isandro died (bullet to the groin; he lost the will to live). Vyvian, nineteen by then, seemed the natural choice for the new Captain of the Anna-Louise. Well, the natural choice after she proceeded to talk and threaten one or two more ambitious crew members into submission. They left at the next port, unwilling to be captained by a teenage girl. You can’t really blame them.
Things again ran smoothly, for around three years, before Captain Vyvian Lee's luck finally ran out.
The same Senate that had left her original home in ruins, and hence forced her into a life of privacy, once again decided to invade Vyvian’s life. The Anna-Louise had sailed freely through the seas for over a decade now and it’s new Captain, Vyvian, had already gained a reputation as being both a highly effective, and highly noble, pirate. The idea of a notorious, yet humane, pirate was somewhat appealing to the general populace, and the multitude of wanted posters now bearing Vyvian’s mug did little to lessen the stories that gossip creates. Worried that, with pirates in general gaining more support among the public, people like Vyvian could soon become a major threat, Argonia sent out special agents to bring the captains in. Unfortunately, Vyvian was one of them.
Laying down her weapons to prevent the complete annihilation of her crew, the majority of which were slaughtered whilst the Anna-Louise was anchored at an unnamed island, Vyvian was taken into custody and deported to what used to be the nations worst prison; Hellina Isle. Hell on earth, as it was called by the locals. Unwilling to have her executed at once, as her containment would bring certain other Captains to them as they would come to her aid, Vyvian spent near three weeks in the prison, looking a rather sad, sorry and half-conscious state when her first Captain, the one she had ditched nine years earlier, finally managed to break her out and raise the prison to the ground.
Thus ended Argonia’s first attempt to wipe out piracy. But who can say how long ago this happened?
Since then, after her recovery, Vyvian and the slowly rebuilding crew of the Anna-Louise have been lying low. It’s been years since anyone last saw them.
Family:
Depending on what time period we’re in, Vyvian’s family differs. In her early years she grew up with her mother and father, along with her master’s family. After they were killed off, there was her mother, father and Patrice, though Vyvian spent very little time with them. Since then, members of her ‘family’ have included Eryk, Felix, Locke and various other members of the crew over time. You forget after a few hundred years what who was to you.
