Neive Amadahy

Age:
20
Race:
Human
Starsign:

Appearance:
Standing at 5’6, there is nothing remarkable about Nieve’s size or build. What is eye catching, however, is the braid of chestnut-brown hair that trails down her back, long enough to be sat upon. She has friendly brown eyes which seem to smile out at the world, giving her an approachable feel. However, just because she’s approachable doesn’t mean she’s an easy target. Go too far out of line with her, and you may just find yourself looking down the bolt of her crossbow.

Unlike the majority of girls her age, Neive isn’t partial to the low cut frocks and wale-bone corsets that are apparently necessary for a girl to be attractive. Instead, she sticks with a more practical cream blouse and long skirt combination, favouring the colours blue and green. Despite her rather vicious objection to wearing a corset, she has settled for a clincher. Public pressure wins out again. What hasn’t changed since her days in the country are her solid, mid-calf, leather boots. And no, she won’t get rid of them, so don’t ask.

Aside from the clincher, and the almost invisible embroidery on the hem of her skirts, the only other adornment Neive is known for wearing is a slim gold chain around her neck, a pendant set with an opal hanging to her mid chest. The necklace has no special abilities, but was given to her for her eighteenth birthday by her mentor, and such fine work is something to be treasured.

Personality:
Seemingly a nice, kind girl at first glance, one will quickly find the bitch within; Nieve’s ever-present layer of sarcasm and cynicism is rather obvious. Unlike some though, this layer does not mean that she’s an aloof and angsting soul; quite the contrary. She is well known for her sense of adventure and her fierce love of life, mostly expressed in the multiple pranks of her youth. Those days are behind her now and, as she is the soul worker of her store, she has settled down somewhat and gained a reputation as a hardworking, reliable young lady. The somewhat in that sentence, however, was operative; despite having ‘grown up’, she is not past throwing a bucket of water over the balcony at some poor, defenceless sod walking below.

However, this brunette isn’t all cheek. For a very rare few people, namely her mentor and certain members of her family (her grandmother’s just too weird to get close to, for example), she shows a far more gentle, caring side. This doesn’t mean their exempt from the occasional teasing, yet to know this side of Neive means that you’re either as close to her as you can get, or have gained her unshakeable loyalty.

History:
Growing up on her parent’s estate, a smallish affair gained through generations of hard work, rather then any form of nobility, Neive had her fair share of the childish adventures many of us have whilst growing up; falling out of trees, almost drowning herself (twice), and learning how to ride a horse on her own after being told –specifically- not to go into the paddocks - all in all, nothing spectacular. At the age of thirteen, after a particularly unsuccessful prank which was supposed to loose the blacksmith’s donkey, she was to repay the damage caused by half a year of fetching water for the peeved blacksmith. Fetching water lead to her helping in the smithy, which lead to her doing her own work, though this was mostly the decorative, delicate pieces for weddings and presents. Two years after starting work with the smith, after mastering all he could teach her, he suggested she travel to the capital city, Menefer, to study under a business associate of his, one Burl Gersemi. Needless to say, the Amadahy family were thrilled at the prospect, and Neive was carted off the next month to the Iona.

Despite her initial misgivings at the sheer size of the city, and of living with an unfamiliar man and his wife, Neive soon grew to love both the Gersemi’s and her new job. Always the quick learner, Neive advanced to the rank of Master Jeweler within two and a half years. Instead of moving out to start up her own business, however, she opted to stay with the Iona, Mrs. Gersemi having passed on and Burl’s condition quickly deteriorating due to old age. The fate of his store now seeming in the clear, Burl slowly began training Neive in his second ‘art’, that being the skill in acquiring a range of informants and other…’acquaintances’. Thus the Iona changed hands, in both senses, and Burl went into retirement, Neive maintaining the shop and looking after him as she would her own father.

Since then, Neive has used her underground links to not only further her information ring, but also to spread the success of the Iona in both its range of goods and fame, its new owner now often being proclaimed as the number-one jewel smith in the land.

Family:
On her last visit home, Neive was sister to three strapping elder brothers, two younger sisters and a baby, her parents still going strong. Also living in the family estate were: her grandmother, a wrinkled old lady who had to be at least a hundred by now, and always seemed to smell of dead cats; her twin aunts, who were so similar that even they had trouble telling each other apart, and were generally just thought of as the same entity; and her twenty year old cousin who still hadn’t managed to get married, despite owning a small fortune. Of course, this was a year or so ago; the number of relatives has probably increased by now.

Occupation:
Neive is best known for her work in the Iona, the jeweller’s store on the main street of the noble’s quarter in Menefer, city of the north. Less well known is her trade in…’under the table goods and services’. But then, you only know about that if you know the correct price.

Likes:
Money, order, passive people, jewellery and shiny things, flaunting the law without being in any real danger
Dislikes:
Magic, overbearing cliental
Fears:
Magic (though she’ll never admit it), donkeys, drowning

Weapon:
Standing in the corner of her store, frighteningly well kept and polished, is Neive’s crossbow. It is nothing special on first look, apparently a normal, standard addition, army bow. Yet generally a bow of that size, almost half as tall as Neive herself, would be far too heavy for her to carry. Odd, that.

Skills:
- Sharp Shooter | Passive skill. Neive’s aim with her crossbow is second to very few, and at least equal to her brother’s.
- Jewel smith | Well it is her job. Neive’s more than competent at making, fixing and taking apart all manner of jewellery and decorative pieces, and has a good eye for the value and make of such things. Along with this comes knowledge of gems and their types and values.
- Persuade | Neive may be a bitch, but she also knows how to butter people up when she needs something from them. This skill is used on anyone and everyone, from regular customers to those trying for her more illegal services.
