Keata Anahi

Age:
17
Race:
Human, Middle Eastern
Starsign:

Appearance:
Tanned from many a period in the bright, desert sun without the appropriate protection, Keata is obviously not your average village girl, looking quite exotic and out of place in a market square. Standing at 5’6”, the average height for a female of the desert, she has a sturdy but lean figure like the rest of her people. After all, light-bones won’t do you much good in the middle of a sandstorm. Despite this, Keata is exceedingly quick on her feet and has long, slender and nimble fingers, both being essential to her…profession. Not an imposing figure, she gently rounded shoulders and a well filled out body structure, well past the bony and gangly stage many teenagers are still at when her age. Short auburn hair reaches just above her shoulders, cut roughly in a style similar to a bob, the fringe, however, coming down at an angle each side from the centre part and hanging slightly lower then the rest of the cut. Despite the rest of her hair being hacked rather short, Keata does, however, have on long, reasonably thick plait that, when left out, reaches far past her waist. This long lock of hair, however, is nearly always braided in and intricate knot so that it only reaches just past her shoulders, rather then its full length. Bright, honey coloured eyes peer out from under this rather messy hairdo, sharp with a mixture of intelligence and cunning, yet large, friendly and playful at the same time. The only other noteworthy feature of Keata’s physical appearance is the thin, winding, vine tattoo that curls itself from centre of her wrist, around once then up around her forefinger. Whilst tattoos are not uncommon in her tribe, tattoos of cooler climate plants are.
Living in the desert means that clothes have to be workable, rather then gender specific or attractive, and travelling has not really changed Keata’s preferred wardrobe. The girl can generally be seen in loose, drawstring pants that tuck into her desert boots, with an under-top, usually in white or cream covering her torso. Above this, she usually wears a short-sleeved jacket with two pockets on it. To top it off, a large, cream coloured scarf sits happily around her shoulders; while it might seem silly for someone from the desert to have a scarf, they’re actually essential during sandstorms. That, and these city people build in such cold places!

Personality:
Cheerful, optimistic, opportunistic. These three words are really all you need to sum Keata up. She’s not one to easily be brought down by a bad circumstance, and rebounds quickly when something gets to her. She has a minor issue when it comes to expressing some of her emotions, especially when it comes to love, but this is only when the emotion is unfamiliar to either herself, or in association to a different person. She enjoys pushing people’s buttons, especially her siblings and enemies.

History:
Keata was born to Kalinda and Ravi in the middle of a sandstorm. Well, not –in- the actual sandstorm, but in a tent whilst a sandstorm was on outside. You get the drift. Rather then this being an ill omen, the people of her tribe, the Tamika, saw this as a sign that Keata would grow up to be a strong, hardy girl able to withstand the trials life threw at her. Superstition seemed to hold true as Keata grew up as strong as her five sisters and three brother, yet also as tricky as any rogue. Seeing this, Ravi, her father, and the leader of her tribe, had her tutored by the tribe’s leading lock-smith in the ways of lock picking, unhinging and general stealth and trickery. Under his own intuition, the man also taught her puzzles and riddles enough to addle any sane man’s brain, and the art of escaping near anything. Needless to say, Keata was one tricky customer. However, when it came down to her tribe, Keata was incurably loyal. A good trait to have in a rogue, were they on your side.

Travelling with her tribe until she was fifteen, Keata eventually decided to set out on her own to, as she put it, “see the world before her hair turned grey and her teeth fell out”. Of course, she could have just wanted to get away from her Grandmother’s constant pestering for her to find some nice young man, settle down in the camp and add to their (already large) family. She never was particularly fond of the idea of settling down, far too boring for her liking.

It was this constant nagging from various parental and grandparental units that eventually prompted her to up and leave when she hit the age of fifteen. She and her brother, Seth, up and left a few weeks after Keata’s birthday. This behaviour was not highly unusual in the tribe as, from the age of thirteen or so upwards, youths participate in the trading runs that were essential to the tribe’s survival, and this movement from an early age often prompted them to leave to go out into the world, at least for a little while. Things were going well, as Seth and Keata were reasonably close in both age and friendship wise, until they hit a sandstorm. Separated by this, Keata stumbled into the nearest city about a week later, severely lacking in supplies and brother-less. It was here that Keata met Ashley, a warrior in black armour.

Despite a rather interesting meeting, which involved a few drunks losing their heads and a run in with some religious zealots (damn religious zealots!), Keata and Ashley pretty much hit it off straight away. They’ve been travelling together for around a year now, partially looking for Seth, partially just seeing the world. Oh yes, and I should mention: They’re stuck in the ‘friends zone’. Keata’s head over heals for Ashley and too confused to tell him, and Ashley…is just oblivious.

Family:
Gawd, don’t get me started. In Keata’s tribe, it’s difficult to tell your niece from your younger sister, shall I say. Keata definitely still has both parents though, Kalinda and Ravi, and, at last count, eight siblings of various ages, Seth being the ninth, but only her half-brother. She also has an array of aunts, uncles, and three of her grandparents still around.

Occupation:
Were she at home, a trader with the family. Right now she’s a traveller, and a thief-by-need.

Likes:
Honey, hot weather, magic tricks, sparring, camels, monkies
Dislikes:
Cold weather, horses, sea travel, cruelty to animals, annoying older siblings, annoying grandparents
Fears:
Slave traders, scorpions, jelly-fish

Weapon:
Twin daggers, straight bladed and slightly shorter than her forearm. The blades are especially thin and flat, and the grips are made from very light hide, both trademarks of their desert heritage. She can use them both forwards and reverse and often flips between the two styles mid battle to throw off her opponents.

Skills:
- Speed | No, not the drug. Keata’s a rather small girl and hence very light and speedy. She also uses this to launch herself at high speeds at opponents, latching on before they can dodge.
- Pick pocket | Now Keata doesn’t isn’t a thief by trade, but all children in her tribe are taught the basics of pick-pocketing so they’re able to identify it. Keata’s just put it into practice.
- Acrobat | Along with the speed goes the acrobatics. Now Keata’s not one of those scarily flexible girls, but she can climb ropes, flip and high kick…a man in the face.
